“Simply magic”

If you are ever lucky enough to visit Casa Colibrí, you will find yourself in paradise. Enclaved in the coast of Nayarit, and away from the major tourist centres, this is a place exclusively for connoisseurs. The house speaks for itself, each room is perfectly comfortable and charming in its own special way. You will wake up amidst a jungle setting to tropical song birds and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks below. The main palapa is the heart of the house and works together with an open, oval kitchen with a large island that has everything you need for a family banquet topped off with attentive service from the staff who made us feel right at home. Sunsets are spectacular by the common pool overlooking the pacific ocean. It will be hard to make yourself leave the house and complex, however you can adventure off site to nearby Platanitos for a gorgeous beach with tranquil waters and taste of traditional Mexican beach folklore, or if you get the timing right on the low tide you can walk to pristine Turtle Beach, and back before the high tide. The place is simply magic and I can’t wait to go back

“A perfect vacation.”

From the moment you arrive at Casa Colibri, the combination of warm sun, fresh breeze, and the only noise coming from the birds, you are put into a state of total relaxation. The design of the house is stunning. The open air palapa that serves as the main hang out area and extends into the kitchen is ideal for lazy days, and if we desired more sun we only had to move several feet outside of the palapa and soak in the rays.

“Paradise"

Casa Colibri is a beautiful, characterful, paradise of a home in a secluded location. Step across the pavement from the front door and down the steps to the sea, (and beach you have virtually to yourself) for a kayak or swim down the estuary, or to surf the waves of the ocean. The amenities in the palapa are excellent, the place is better equipped than my home, with everything you could ever need in the kitchen.

Punta El Custodio is magical. Just returned from a wonderful week at Casa Colibri. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience! The home is lovely - had everything that we could have wanted and far exceeded our expectations. Punta El Custodio is magical - I got on a surf board for the 1st time and surfed everyday of our stay. Our group consisted of 2 couples, 1 single and 2 children (9 and 12) - there was something for everyone.

"Our first visit to Casa Colibri was back in 2009. We have been back since then several times, and each time we enter the gate of Punta el Custodio, the small community, we have the feeling we enter paradise."

“Wonderful place to relax by the ocean."

We have rented Casa Colibri twice now and it is wonderful. Beautiful open-air main palapa lets you relax indoors and outdoors at the same time, with a great little pool for a quick dip (or longer for the kids!). Rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, with plenty of room for your stay.

“Relaxing.”

Fresh squeezed orange juice and breakfast ready as soon as we arose. All rooms maintained in spotless condition with artfully beautiful personal touches everywhere. Each room is separated from the others and with the open air environment, each maintains privacy but one can still hear the surf hitting the rocks in the evening. The lush tropical grounds are kept trimmed and gorgeous.

“Absolutely amazing!”

It doesn't get much better than this. Everything from the house to the landscape of the area was so beautiful.

It is in a remote area where you are free to do as you please. No fighting crowds at the beach or small restaurants at the bottom of the hill if you'd like to step out for something different. It was as if paradise was all yours and you didn't have to share with anyone.

"I would recommend Casa Colibri to everybody”

We rented Casa Colibri for spring break 2017 with another family. The house was beautiful and clean, the staff was very nice. The place is actually a paradise. I would recommend Casa Colibri to everybody. We really enjoyed out trip, hope to rent it again in the future.

The place itself is magical, you are in another world. Very Private, away from all the tourists, the perfect place to relax. The house is very special, with privacy for all guests, the bedrooms are build in separate houses. Amazingly beautiful living area, with an inviting huge dinner table. We come back every year, it's our highlight every time!

Rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, with plenty of room for your stay. The beach is right down a set of stairs outside the front door - you can hear the surf from all rooms in the house. The beach is perfect for everyone with surf on one side and a river estuary on the other. Really ideal for kids. The service at Casa Colibri is fantastic with delicious food prepared daily.

"I can think of no better place I've ever been."

After my 4+ hour plane trip and the 2 hour auto trip from the airport to Nayarit, I was a bit nervous at what might be ahead, particularly as we wound our way along a very rough patch of road during the last 1/2 mile in the car. However, the moment we drove into the gated compound, all my concerns vanished. The weather was perfect, the accommodations were superb, the friendliness and graceful hospitality were world class. The compound sits atop a beautiful bluff overlooking the ocean with wonderful views. For those who really want to wind down in a quiet place of exquisite beauty, peace, perfect weather and ultimate privacy, I can think of no better place I've ever been.

"Naps and Margaritas."

My husband and I joined my brother and his wife on their honeymoon to Casa Colibri...and couldn't have picked a better place to hang out and relax together! While we had lofty dreams of all the great things we would do in Mexico...in the end, we were so relaxed that we really only managed to take a lot of long, lazy naps and drink plenty of homemade margaritas. We did find time to take some dips in the pools and we never missed a single gorgeous sunset. The entire staff was exceptional and we particularly loved the Colibri housekeeper who treated us with first class hospitality! We would go back tomorrow if we could.

It was as if paradise was all yours and you didn't have to share with anyone. Also Moña the house’s chef and maid was amazing. She was very friendly and her cooking was so good. She really does spoil you with her cooking. Definitely my favorite vacation spot. In fact I've already vacationed here 2 times now and I'm looking forward to a third

"A week in paradise."

My husband and I came to visit friends, and stayed at Casa Colibri for one week. From the very first evening we were seduced by our surroundings. We were absolutely stunned by the lovely, luxurious, and beautifully decorated accommodations. We most enjoyed strolling to the Point in the evening to watch the sun set over the Pacific and the brilliant stars appeared. We swam in the ocean every day, kayaked in the Estuary, hiked along the Nayarit coast, and enjoyed local seafood in Platanitos. This was a second honeymoon for us, and it was well worth every penny we spent. We enjoyed every single moment of our visit, and look forward to returning soon.

"This home is a private fantasy village of gardens and pool."

Set in stunning nature in a beautiful private community, Casa Colibri is like no other home you have ever been to. Gardens and terraces and pools and living quarters flow seamlessly into each others. Rooms are actually separate palapa thatched buildings, woven together with vine covered footpaths. Natural rock walls weave to provide complete privacy, trees and flowers and vines penetrate the living experience everywhere, the line between indoors and outdoors is sometimes hard to find. We love the bedrooms, the master suite has a wonderful terrace and views over the surf. We loved the meal plan and the wonderful food that was prepared for us every day. Casa Colibri is a most amazing and unique vacation experience that we can recommend most highly

“Secluded paradise.”

Casa Colibri is a haven for the weary individual seeking respite from the bombardment of responsibilities of life. It has all the modern amenities that you need to satisfy your comfort needs, but it is located in a very secluded and exclusive area. You won't be bothered, but if you decide to venture out, you'll find numerous towns, villages, and surf beaches just a short drive away.

"Best house on the point."

Best house on the point - slightly inland so you're protected from insects and winds. Very tastefully decorated/designed. Very nice finishes, but it truly feels like home. I can honestly say I have no complaints. This was the best vacation I've ever been on and am going back to stay at Punta El Custodio in Casa Colibri again next year!

"The food provided by the staff was AMAZING!"

We visited beautiful Casa Colibri with our two year old son and our close friends with kids too. We stayed for two weeks and had so much family fun. The private pool right off the main living area is warm and the perfect size to accommodate two families. It was perfect for our toddlers to swim around in while us adults enjoyed our beverages both in and out of the pool. Bedrooms are their own separate buildings with their own bathrooms. This was really helpful with toddlers because they could have quiet naps. And it gave us adults some privacy too. The food provided by the staff was AMAZING! … This is the first vacation where we had a chef and it was awesome not having to worry about cooking and cleaning. We will be back!

"The only downside is that we had to leave."

From the moment you arrive at Casa Colibri, the combination of warm sun, fresh breeze, and the only noise coming from the birds, you are put into a state of total relaxation. The design of the house is stunning. The open air palapa that serves as the main hang out area and extends into the kitchen is ideal for lazy days. The food, as made by the fantastic staff, was always waiting for us in all of its glory. I'm sure we all gained weight, mostly because you can't refuse seconds (or thirds or fifths) when things taste as they did. The only downside (as concluded by the group) is that we had to leave. We comforted ourselves by promising that we would return.

Each room is separated from the others and with the open air environment, each maintains privacy but one can still hear the surf hitting the rocks in the evening. The lush tropical grounds are kept trimmed and gorgeous. There were kayaks to borrow and explore the estuary. The sunsets were extraordinary. Lots of birds to observe and whale watching both from shore or private boat excursions. …The villa itself is a wonderful experience to enjoy. Its architecture is characteristic of a tropical environment and adds a relaxing aspect to the entire experience. We felt completely secure during our stay.

"Mexico's Shangri-La."

Never had any of us seen such an amazing array of gardens and flowers. I was convinced we had found Mexico's Shangri-La before I even stepped foot into Casa Colibri. The first thing you notice when you step inside the house is the gorgeous palapa that covers the kitchen and living room. … Our days were spent in utter and complete relaxation; some days we got so busy relaxing that we weren't able to fit anything else in. We migrated from the community pool on the point that overlooks the Pacific Ocean…And if we weren't relaxed enough by this, we'd top it off with a moonlight dip in the small but peaceful pool 5 feet from the main living area in Casa Colibri. For our one week, all other trivial matters in the world ceased to exist. It was the very essence of vacation.

From the owners…

We first came to the Point in 2003 for Spring Break: 2 adults, 4 kids. We saw a 3-line blurb about the Point in a Puerto Vallarta vacation guide book, and dared to take a chance on an adventure. We rented a car in Vallarta, missed the last turnoff in the dark, finally found it, went up the last ½ mile of rutted road. Arghh! We thought we’d been burned! Then we got to the gate, and even in the dark we could see that it was a magical place, as others have written. And when the sun came up the next morning, we were blown away with the breathtaking beauty of the Point. There were still a few lots for sale. We checked our resources: the lots were affordable. We bought two adjoining lots in 2004 and started building Casa Colibri in 2005. Except for a one-lunger cement mixer and a high-speed tile cutter, the place was built completely by hand by a local family of stonemasons: a dad and two sons as the maestros, and five or six day laborers. Because we are still working, we can come down from Alaska only a few times during our long winters, but when we retire, we’ll come down more often and for longer periods. In the meantime, we are happy to share our Mexico home with others. Besides, it almost goes without saying that renting helps defray the high costs of maintenance.
